The Faculty of History, Art and Regional Studies seeks to fulfill the mentioned above professorship at the earliest opportunity.

The professorship will focus on research and teaching in the field of critical African studies from a post- or decolonial perspective on knowledge production addressing the tension between the colonial legacy of African studies and current theoretical and conceptual debates. A focus on the fields of political geography or political ecology is desirable.

Participation in the degree programmes of the Institute of African Studies and a cross-faculty doctoral programme is expected, as is the willingness to contribute to the development of a new BA in Regional Studies.

The Bachelor's degree programme in African Studies is taught in German, the Master's degree programme in African Studies is taught in English.
Active involvement in the research profile area “Global Entanglements and Comparisons” and the cross-faculty research initiative “New Global Dynamics Worlds in Crisis?” is expected.

The candidate can provide evidence of a habilitation or an equivalent achievement (positively evaluated junior professorship, second monograph or similar). He/She has an excellent research track record (proven by publications in leading international journals), empirical research experience in at least one African country, experience in academic self-administration and in the acquisition of third-party funding as well as a strong international research network.
