Questions and answers about the graduation ceremony

The event will take place on October 2, 2024 in the Paulinum – Assembly Hall and University Church of St. Paul as well as in the New Augusteum on the Augustusplatz campus.

Admission to the event area begins at 12:00 p.m. From this point onwards, the offers at the promotional stands will already be available. The official program starts at 2 p.m. You will receive an email in September 2024 with the specific schedule and access codes to the event for you and your companions.

The central graduation ceremony, which is taking place for the first time, offers a festive opportunity to celebrate your successful graduation together across disciplines and to experience the sense of community at our university. The focus of the program is the celebratory farewell by the rector of our university, Prof. Dr. Eva Inés Obergfell. The event is rounded off by the Leipzig University Music, a humorous poetry slam and short greetings. In addition, at the end of the event, a “final photo with a symbolic hat toss” will be taken as a lasting souvenir of the day, which we will provide to you free of charge.

The supporting program includes, among other things, the university shop, food and drink offerings and hands-on activities at stands in the New Augusteum. At photo stations in the foyer you can also have your photo taken with your guests and capture this moment as a memory.

Participation in the graduation ceremony is generally intended for graduates (Bachelor, Master, Diploma, Magister, State Examination) of the eligible semesters (winter semester 2023/24 and summer semester 2024). Eligible graduate students will also receive information about this via email.

Registration for the graduation ceremony starts on June 27, 2024 and ends on August 30, 2024. You can only register using the registration form on the website.

You have the option of registering up to two accompanying persons. You will receive an email in September 2024 with the access codes to the event for you and your companions.

If there are still remaining places available at the end of August 2024, we will inform you whether and how remaining tickets can be purchased for additional accompanying persons. We ask you to refrain from making inquiries to the organization team.

Since the space capacity in the Paulinum – Assembly Hall and University Church of St. Paul is limited, the event in the New Augusteum will also be broadcasted via live stream.

We would like to thank our sponsors, especially our partners for science funding (Leipzig University Foundation and Leipzig University Society), for their generous support.

The event takes place in a celebratory setting. You should feel comfortable in the clothing you choose for the graduation ceremony.

Graduates can attend the event in the traditional gown and beret. Both must be ordered on your own responsibility in advance of the event from our cooperation partner Robe Academicus by August 30, 2024. The link to the provider will be automatically sent to the graduates after registering for the event. The provider charges a rental fee of EUR 25.00 for the rental of gowns and berets. In addition, a rental deposit of EUR 70.00 is required. Once the clothing has been returned, it will be transferred back to the specified account.

The robes will be picked up on October 2, 2024 from the New Augusteum on Campus Augustusplatz and returned after the event. Please refer to the email you will receive from our cooperation partner Robe Academicus in September 2024 for the collection and fitting time for the robe.

The event site is barrier-free. If you need additional support, please send an email with detailed information to alumni(at)uni-leipzig.de.

Photos and videos will be taken during the event. By registering for the event, you agree to the use of these recordings.

There are also photo stations in the New Augusteum where you can have your photo taken professionally. In addition, at the end of the event, a “final photo with a symbolic hat toss” will be taken as a lasting souvenir of the day, which we will provide to you free of charge.

Of course you can also take photos yourself.

In addition to the central graduation ceremony, there are also decentralized events held by the individual faculties/institutes, at which graduation certificates are sometimes handed out directly. Please note that no certificates will be awarded during the central graduation ceremony. Please refer to the relevant notices from your faculty for the specific dates and locations of the decentralized graduation ceremonies.
