The Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has repealed the SARS-CoV-2 Occupational Health and Safety Ordinance. Leipzig University has therefore adopted new regulations for university operations.

Translation of the German version, which was last amended on 8 February 2023

Can I work from home?

Members of staff who wish to work from home are required to arrange this individually in accordance with the rules of the Service Agreement on Mobile Working at Leipzig University (DVMA).

Please note that there will be no changes to the established practice among academic staff of making individual arrangements between superiors and staff members.

Separate rules on working remotely apply to members of staff at the Faculty of Medicine.

When do I need to wear an FFP2/KN95 mask? When are surgical masks sufficient?

Wearing medical face masks or FFP2/KN95 masks without exhalation valves is recommended inside University buildings. In particular, it makes sense to wear a mask where people are less than 1.5 metres away from each other and no technical or organisational protective measures are possible. Using higher-quality respirators (KN95, FFP mask) without exhalation valves is recommended, as these offer significantly better protection.

Surgical masks are still mandatory in the University’s outpatient clinics.

What happens in confirmed or suspected cases of infection?

In the event of a positive test result

  • The superior may ask the member of staff to consult or telephone their doctor.
  • The member of staff decides at their own discretion whether it is necessary to consult their doctor.
  • The member of staff notifies their direct superior that they are unable to work.
  • Secondly, the ill staff member – or another member of staff, for example a secretary – informs the Department of Human Resources of the sick leave. A web form is provided for this purpose at: www.uni-leipzig.de/krankmeldung
  • The anonymity and rights of the person concerned must be preserved within the team (no information about the person concerned to third parties).
  • Superiors may choose to take preventive measures together with the employee concerned.

In the event of suspected cases based on clear symptoms?

  • Members of staff with symptoms indicative of COVID-19 are asked to stay at home or to exit Leipzig University’s buildings, rooms and premises, and to consult a doctor in order to prevent the potential infection of other people. One of the following symptoms is sufficient for this:
    • Fever of 38 degrees Celsius of higher
    • Headache and aching limbs
    • Loss of sense of smell or taste
    • Gastrointestinal problems.
  • This does not apply if the symptoms mentioned have other causes, such as chronic diseases or allergies.
  • We ask each and every individual to deal with this situation responsibly.
  • Superiors may choose to take preventive measures together with the employee concerned.

In the event of direct contact with a person who tested positive?

  • Superiors may choose to take preventive measures together with the employee concerned.
