Junior Professorship in Algebra and Combinatorics (W1)

We are looking for a junior researcher with a very strong research profile in a current area of algebra and combinatorics, related to the research profile of the department. Possible research topics include graph limits, graph algorithms, geometric group theory, measurable group theory, Borel and measurable combinatorics, descriptive set theory.

Excellence in research should be demonstrated by publications in leading journals.

The future holder of the position will be expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment to teaching, particularly across the full breadth of algebra and combinatorics, as well as to teacher training and student supervision. The teaching commitment is 4 hours per week (e.g. two 90-minute lectures per week) in the first three years and 6 hours per week after the interim evaluation.

German language skills are not required for application. However, they may be taken into account depending on the teaching needs of the Institute.

Particular attention will be paid to the willingness to apply for external funding and to cooperate with existing research groups at the Institute of Mathematics and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Junior professorships should be seen as opportunities for further qualification. This call is therefore aimed at applicants who, having completed a good doctoral degree (with the honour magna cum laude or higher), wish to obtain a further qualification and have not completed a habilitation. If the applicant was employed as research or graduate assistant prior to or after completing his or her doctorate, then the doctorate and employment phases should have lasted no more than six years in total (child-raising periods are taken into account).

The junior professorship is initially limited to three years. It will be extendable by a further three years subject to successful intermediate evaluation according to the Regulations on the Interim Evaluation Procedure for Junior Professors at Leipzig University (ZEvaO).

The employment status and the employment requirements are governed by §§ 64, 65, 72 SächsHSG and the Saxon Service Regulations for Higher Education Institutions (HSDAVO).
