"Mapping mechanisms of reorganisation in the language network"

    14th June 2024, 12:00

Abstract:

In my talk, I will give a brief overview of my work on the mechanisms of plasticity in language networks. This includes studies in which short-term plasticity is induced with transcranial magnetic stimulation in healthy subjects and chronic stroke patients, but especially neuroimaging studies in stroke patients with aphasia. Finally, I will address the question of how these mechanisms could be used for network therapies.

Bio:

Dorothee Saur is Professor of Neurology and Deputy Director of the Department of Neurology at the University of Leipzig, Germany. She leads the Neuroimaging Laboratory and Dementia Outpatient Clinic.

She trained in medicine in Jena, Germany and neurology in Hamburg and Freiburg, Germany. After a post-doctoral fellowship at Northwestern University, Chicago, she completed neurology training in Leipzig.

Her current research focuses on mechanisms underlying language recovery in patients with stroke, but also includes other topics of cognitive neurology and neuroimaging.
