First Steps in Working with Data: From Loading Data to Analysis and Beyond
In this workshop, we both demonstrate what working with data looks like in practice and provide space for questions from participants of all disciplines, positions, and proficiency levels (e.g. in Python).
The workshop is open to all interested parties. You do not have to be a member of the Graduate Academy Leipzig to participate. Students interested in doing a doctorate should enter their university login (username) in the registration form instead of their membership number.

Course Description
The course aims to provide a broad overview of what is commonly regarded as 'working with data' and demonstrates steps, tools, and insights for becoming more 'data literate.' After a brief presentation of the Toolbox Datenkompetenz platform, we will use the platform to dive deeper into working with a dataset called 'Seoul Bike Share Demand.' Using this example, we invite everyone to join and code along with the lecturer for the first part of the exercise. We will load the data, inspect it, and perform some basic analysis and visualizations. At the end of the workshop, there will be at least 20 minutes for your questions and 'Can I/you do'-requests that go beyond the dataset. The workshop will conclude with identifying potential further learning paths.
Notes for workshop participants
Please bring a laptop or tablet. There will be a 20-minute, slow-paced section where students are invited to follow the lecturer and write some code. This requires registration on the platform (beta.toolboxdatenkompetenz.de), which is free and takes less than a minute. Participation in this hands-on exercise is not mandatory.
