After the screening of Picture a Scientist, you might be wondering what you can actively do to address and dismantle mechanisms of discrimination in science. This workshop provides an opportunity to explore these questions.

On 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we invite you to a workshop focused on power structures in everyday research. Building on the film Picture a Scientist, which powerfully highlights the barriers women face in academia – from hidden obstacles to overt misconduct – we will delve into these dynamics, reflect on their impact, and develop strategies for potential courses of action.

The workshop will be led by Maria Melms and Henriette Niekler.

Maria Melms is a certified mediator and has been coordinating the field of research ethics and the ombudsperson services at Leipzig University since 2020.

Henriette Niekler is a consultant for strategic projects at Leipzig University and is committed to promoting fair conditions for researchers in the early stages of their careers.

This event is part of the programme for the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Target group: Doctoral researchers, postdocs, junior research group leaders, (junior) professors.
