Spending a term at a European, American or African University is a valuable addition to the curriculum of the BA and MA African Studies as well as of the Magister Afrikanistik. Magister students have the possibility to substitute the obligatory internship in Africa by a term spent at an African University. For studies at other European universities, the Erasmus/Sokrates programme provides a helpful institutional basis. Furthermore, the Leipzig Institute of African Studies cooperates with Africa Centers in Basel, Bordeaux, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Lisbon, Naples and Roskilde. Moreover, bilateral University partnerships offer students the possibility to study, for example, at Stellenbosch University/South Africa (near Cape Town), Addis Ababa/Ethiopia, Yaoundé I/Cameroon or at the University of Dar es Salaam/Tanzania. Numerous other Universities offer courses that are relevant from the point of view of African Studies. Advice on these issues is provided by the Akademische Auslandsamt (University International Center). You can access more information on studying abroad here. Please note that the Institute is offering a DAAD-sponsored "Welcome to Africa" programme to increase mobility of its students to African partner universities.
